Katy Mae Germany

Katy Alexander Germany was born March 3rd, 1940, to Steve Coleman and Rosella Combs Washington Coleman in Marshall, Texas. She was the youngest of 7 siblings. In 1946, the family moved to Texas City, Texas. Her early education began there at Booker T. Washington Elementary School where she strived to be an excellent student.

In 1952, Katy's mother gained her Heavenly wings after succumbing to a serious illness. It was shortly after that, she was adopted by Mose and Josephine White where she continued her Christian and educational journey after moving to LaMarque, Texas. She graduated from Lincoln High School in LaMarque, Texas and continued on to St. Phillips College in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating, she moved Fresno, California and attended Fresno State University where she received her Master's in Social work (MSW).

Katy Alexander Germany, MSW, was an experienced and dedicated Social Worker and School Counselor. Driven by her love for people, she took pride in providing the best solutions possible. As a Credentialed People, Pupil Personnel Professional and Master of Social Work, her goals included helping people to become their best selves by providing personal counseling and community resources for all in need. In addition to her primary job functions, Katy has been recognized by several organizations such as the National Association of Black Social Workers, Fresno Community Hospital and Bakersfield City Schools for her extraordinary commitment to students and community service.

Katy's passion for people and community can be traced back to Fresno, California where she met and married Jerry alexander. She spent a significant amount of time working on the campus of California State University, Fresno and West Fresno Unified School District respectively. As an MSW, she specialized in teaching and preparing future social workers to assist their clients adjust to changes and challenges in their lives, such as illness, divorce, or unemployment.

Katy has worked in the community service for over 50 years, gaining experience in school counseling, community service leadership and social service program development. As a seasoned MSW, she is passionate about advancing the cause of African-American people and social justice as well as Christianity.

In June of 1984, Katy and her husband James, now deceased, moved to Bakersfield, California and became members of Cain Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church located and served in various capacities. As members of Cain Memeorial, Katy and James Germany served on several boards and committees, such as Class Leadership, Hospitality, Young Peoples Department (YPD), Bereavement and Steward boards respectively. Katy was also a member of the Adult Inspirational Chior.

Katy always had a big, beautiful smile that greeted everyone she met. It affectionately became known throughout the family as the "Aunt Katy Smile"! When asked how she was doing, she'd respond by saying, "I'm kicking, but not high"! Her door and her heart were open to anyone who needed a friend to talk to, a shoulder to lean on, or just sit at her table and share a meal. She made everyone feel "As welcomed as the flowers in May"!

Katy Alexander Germany was preceded in death by her birth parents Steve and Rosella Coleman; her adoptive parents Mose and Josephine White; her 1st husband, Jerry Alexander; her 2nd husband, James Germany; her siblings Theodore Washington, Herman Washington, Lucy Washington Bridges, Stevesta Coleman Jones Grant, Rosella Coleman Jackson, and Willie Carl Coleman.

Katy Alexander Germany leaves to celebrate her legacy: Daughters, Sheila R. Fulmer (Lonnie); Roslyn Alexander. Grandchildren: Markeisha, Alondra, Shalon, and Alex. Great-Grand Children: Dasia,Amara,Micah,and Londynn. Her 1st black doll: ILetha Stovall Avie: Her sister from her adoptive parents: Eva Lou Love White and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Katy Alexander Germany has served her family and community with pride, joy and a never-ending compassion and love. Today, we celebrate her for all she has done in service to others.
