Luthemy (Lou) Ruffin was born to the union of Henry Lee & Ossie Ruffin on
August 29, 1961, in Bakersfield, California. He is preceded in death by his
parents Henry Lee and Ossie Ruffin, and brother Kenneth Ray Ruffin.
Luthemy completed his elementary, Junior High and High School education
in Bakersfield, CA where he graduated from Golden State Junior High and
South High School.
He accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized and a devoted
member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church of Bakersfield, CA under the
leadership of the late Pastor Dr. Tyree Toliver where he served faithfully on
the Convalescent Ministry and was highly active with the Men’s Ministry.
Later, Luthemy became a member of Greater Harvest Christian Center of
Bakersfield, CA under the leadership of Bishop Vernon L. Kemp. Luthemy
continued serving as president of the Convalescent Ministry, Prison
Ministry, and Men’s Ministry. He was later ordained as a Minister and
served as a Deacon. His ministry was not only in the church, but also in the
streets of Bakersfield where he touched the lives of so many people.
Luthemy was not perfect, but he knew God and Lou loved God. People
loved it when he would teach Bible class because of his excitement when
he taught and his thorough studies of each lesson. This is what we will
forever remember, and we believe he touched so many souls and a lot of
them now have a relationship with God.
Luthemy loved sharing about the goodness of God. There was nothing he
was more passionate about than praying and worshiping the Lord. Luthemy
faithfully would arise every morning, read his Bible, and pray before he
would start his day.
Luthemy loved spending time with family and friends and all those who
knew him enjoyed his Big Bright Smile.
Luthemy worked many years in the oilfield industry as a Machine Operator
and later became a supervisor with Sturgeon & Sons.
On Saturday, January 11, 2025, Luthemy answered the eternal summons
from God to enter into everlasting rest and depart this life. He leaves to
cherish his memories one son Luthemy Ruffin Jr and Granddaughter Skai
